Fencing is a popular addition to many properties and should be of a farm's yearly maintenance plan. recognize that with fencing comes numerous questions about selecting the appropriate type. Therefore, at Black Fern Fencing, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions to assist you in making an informed decision.

  • What type of fences do you offer

    Wood Hog panel fence

    We specialize in woven wire fencing for animals and wildlife, including elk-proof and predator-proof options. We also offer chain link fencing for both commercial and residential use, as well as decorative ornamental wooden post-and-rail and custom steel hog panel designs.

  • Do we travel?

    Our operations span across Wyoming, and we have recently extended our fence installation services into Colorado. The primary towns we service on a weekly basis include Casper, Buffalo, and Sheridan WY.

  • How much does a fence cost?

    Average backyard dog fences usually cost between $5,000 and $7,000. The price of a backyard privacy fence can vary significantly depending on the chosen material, our basic 6-foot wood privacy fence typically costs around 10-15000 dollars. For larger-scale projects, a standard 5-wire barbed ranch fence costs about $4 per linear foot.

  • Fencing in rock or steep ground

    We have equipment to handle rocky or hard ground, including a 770 lb drop weight post driver with a 5" x 5' rock spike attachment, augers, and pneumatic rock drills.

  • Do you supply the materials?

    Yes, we prefer to supply the materials as we guarantee our workmanship with  trusted brands like Gallagher, Stay-Tuff wire, Strainrite and Master Halco 

  • Do you remove old fences, and do you offer land clearing?

    Yes, we can remove old fences and prep the fence line for installation. 

  • How do you install your fence posts?

    Unless specified, we prefer to drive our post in the ground. Line posts are driven to a minimum depth of three feet, and terminal (brace) posts to a minimum of four feet. This ensures minimal soil disturbance, resulting in a stronger fence that lasts longer.

  • Do you fence in the winter?

    Our advanced equipment is specifically designed to perform effectively even in challenging conditions, including frozen ground. We are confident in our ability to tackle any obstacles that may arise, ensuring that our operations continue smoothly and efficiently.

  • What equipment do you have?

    Our equipment sets us apart from other contractors. We operate remote-controlled Bobcat machinery and a New Zealand-made post driver capable of driving posts and poles up to 14 feet long and 10 inches in diameter into any terrain. Additionally, we have 30-pound and 60-pound pneumatic rock drills, as well as air- and gas-powered post drivers for pipe and T-posts. We take pride in our innovative approach and consistently stay up-to-date with the latest efficient tools and equipment.

  • Do you do commercial or residential projects

    In 2024, 75% of our fence projects were commercial, with the remaining 25% being residential.
